A fire in a weedy area of Erandio forces the BI-735 to be cut due to smoke
The warning for the fire has been registered at 12:40 p.m.
23 firefighters and six trucks from the Urioste, Artaza and Derio parks, helped by three forest technicians from the Diputación, have fought this Sunday against the flames to put out a device or fire that had been destroyed in the old industrial land of Playabarri in Erandio . They managed to put out the flames, but they were rekindled several times and at various points, which, according to those responsible for companies in the area, “is being investigated if it was intentional.”
An individual alerted at 12:40 p.m. that there was a fire in a bush area on the right bank of the Asua River. “It is an area where many illegal dumping is left and in recent times shantytowns have proliferated,” denounced members of the monitoring group of the Auzokideok platform in Erandio. The virulence of the flames and the wind caused the smoke to jump to the other bank of the riverbed, where an industrial estate is located and among whose businessmen the alarm was unleashed, “although the intervention of the Fire Department prevented it from spreading near the first pavilion ». The smoke, however, forced the closure of the BI-735, an access road to a nearby commercial area, and also a Euskotren railway line for most of the day.
In just an hour and a half, the firefighting service declared the focus on its social network “extinguished”, although after four in the afternoon the fire was rekindled, “tens of meters later”, as explained by a worker from a nearby factory. The professionals redoubled their efforts and hours later they managed to have it “perimetered and controlled.” Sources from the Erandio City Council, for their part, remarked that the incident has been settled, “with no more burning than bushes, without material damage, nor of course to people.” The companies in the area, however, denounced the state of abandonment of this old industrial land. The neighbors, for their part, described the plot as “Ground Zero of Erandio”, and where, despite the fact that “in all urban plans it is classified as regeneration, in 16 years nothing has been done other than to accumulate pollution and waste”.
