The Czechoslovak beat-festival takes place on October 16 in the large hall of Lucerna. Pavel Sedláček & Cadillac, Syncopy 61, Pavol Hammel and Prúdy, FLAMENGO reunion session, Precedens, Michal Prokop and Framus five and The Primitives Group will perform. The festival follows on from the first two years that took place in the second half of the sixties and the third year from the beginning of the seventies. It was finally held in 2017 and 2018.
The 1st Czechoslovak Beat Festival was held in Lucerne in December 1967 and featured a number of bands such as The Primitives Group, Framus Five, Mickey & Rock’n’roll Stars, Olympic, Syncopy 61, Flamengo, Prúdy, Rebels, Juventus, Soulmen and The Spies.
A year later, the second year was held. Among others, Viktor Sodoma & Apollobeat performed in Lucerne, Primitives group, Blue effect, Framus five, Flamengo, George & Beatovens, Olympic, Syncopation 61, Flamingo, Currents AND New Soulmen. At the same time, several guests from abroad also arrived. The third year was in 1971. By then, the festival had already collapsed and no further year was held.
It wasn’t until 2017 that the Czechoslovak Beat Festival was revived, and Ivan Rössler’s art agency undertook an interesting project. The most recent year was held in 2018. The year before, the event had to be canceled at the last minute due to the outbreak of the covid pandemic. For the same reason, the festival did not take place last year either.
Ivan Rössler did not give up and is preparing another year of the renewed festival. The rock and roll legend of the early 1960s, Pavel Sedláček, will perform in Luzern on the third Saturday of October with his band Cadillac. This will be followed by Brno’s Syncope 61, which is celebrating its symbolic 61 years this year.
Pavol Hammel and his legendary Prúdy will come from Bratislava. This year, Flamengo is celebrating 50 years of the album Chicken in a watch and under the name FLAMENGO reunion session will present the best of the mentioned albums. The band is based on a pair of original members of Flamengo, Pavel Fořt (guitar) and Vladimír “Guma” Kulhánek (bass guitar), who both remember the golden era of Flamengo.
“Precedence is the youngest of the performing bands, the group was a phenomenon only in the eighties, but today they already belong to the legends and undoubtedly belong to Lucerna,” said Ivan Rössler.
Michal Prokop and Framus five return to Lucerna after 55 years. In 1967, he stood up to the microphone for the first time as a singer, before that he worked as a guitarist, and he was immediately awarded the title of singer of the year at the Czechoslovak Beat Festival. “His performance will be the highlight of this year’s beat festival,” noted the organizer.
The conclusion will belong to The Primitives Group. She surprised at both historic festivals, in 1968 she performed a psychedelic show that had no period at the time.
“She repeated the seventy in 2017 and we can certainly count on something this year as well, for the reason that Ivan Hajniš will celebrate his seventy-fifth birthday in Lucerne,” added Ivan Rössler.
