Canal Parade in Amsterdam again after two years – Wel.nl
After two years of absence, Amsterdam will once again be the scene of the world-famous Canal Parade on Saturday afternoon, a colorful procession of dozens of boats during Pride Week. Traditionally, the boat parade across the canals attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors. Singer Willeke Alberti, newsreader Simone Weimans, presenter Jurre Geluk, D66 MP Lisa van Ginneken and chairman Cornald Maas form the jury of the parade.
During the 25th edition of the Canal Parade, the long boats each carry a message focused on the theme My Gender, My Pride. With that theme, the organization calls for extra attention for groups such as transgender people or people who are non-binary. Boats from LGBTI organizations, gay catering and companies that support the struggle of the LGBTI community sail. The police, the national government and the municipality of Amsterdam also have their own boat.
Pride Week started a week ago with the Pride Walk, a demonstration for equal rights for LGBT people worldwide. Splinter Chabot and makers of the queer series ANNE+ participated, among others. This Sunday the week will be concluded with a ‘closing party’ on Dam Square.
The parade starts at 12.00 from Oosterdok. The boats sail via the Prinsengracht to the Westerdok, where the last boat arrives around 6 pm. AVROTROS will broadcast the tour live on NPO 1. The Canal Parade can also be followed via AT5, Salto and OUTtv.
