Audio-described match commentary arrives in Toulouse for the visually impaired

Pour it TFCthe Handball Fenixor even during Toulouse Capitole Perche in September… The town hall of Toulouse is bringing back this year for its second edition the audio description device for the visually impaired. The corn: their provide a descriptive comment during the matches, directly in the sports arenas, to experience the atmosphere of the matches like all the spectators. Please note that the device is only intended for home games.
Commentators will be students in training who will be trained for the exercise, “we will welcome for each meeting a pair of student journalists from ISJT, ISCPA or the SudFormadia radio school. Each will be in charge of a team” explains Corentin Cougoulein charge of this project at the town hall.
The sports covered
For the moment, Toulouse town hall is associated with two clubs in the city for the project. Sunday August 7, place at Toulouse Football Club who will live his first audio description commentary for the team’s return to Ligue 1 against Nice.
The club of Handball Fenix is also a partner in the operation, with a first meeting on September 9 against the Créteil club.
In September, audio description will be presented at the Toulouse Capitole Perche September 16 and 17, 2022. The event is an international pole vault meeting which will welcome the best pole vaulters, including Renaud Lavillenie.
How to benefit from it?
To access the service, no action is necessary. Only the purchase of your ticket for the meeting:
“For the first two matches at the TFC, all you have to do is pick up a box in the stadium which will broadcast the comments directly to a headset. From the TFC match against PSG, we will use the “Twavox” application which broadcasts directly on the phone the audio description. There will be nothing to do, just be connected to the application.”
Twavox is an “audio assistance, subtitles and audio description application for people with visual and hearing impairments”. Until 150 people could be connected to it at the same time according to the town hall.
Afterwards, Corentin Cougoule explains wanting to extend the device to more sport, “we try to have rugby too”, but also to women: “it is important for us to represent everything that is done in Toulouse. We would like develop audio description on women’s sports in Toulouse, they are part of our local showcase”.
