Antwerp Fire Bears get 18 (!) medals at ‘Olympic Games for’ | Antwerp
ANTWERPThe World Police Fire Games of produced ‘Olympic Games for developed’ so close to home has done the planning of the Antwerp Fire Brigade Zone well. After returning from China in 2019 with ten medals, our fire brigade is now bringing back eighteen pieces of honorary metal from Rotterdam.
The World Police Fire Games (WPFG) took place at the end of July for the first time and is held every two years. With some eight thousand firefighters, police officers, guards and customs officers from more than forty different countries, WPFG is the largest sporting event in the world, after the real Olympic Games. The teams compete against each other for ten days in classic sports disciplines such as archery and practice as well as profession-related tests such as ladder climbing, shooting and the prestigious ‘ultimate firefighter’.
Eighteen times price
A fixed value at the tournament are the Antwerp Fire Bears, who have been participating in the tournament since 1989. In 2019, the Bears were able to cash in ten medals in Chengdu, China. In Rotterdam, the fire brigade took it even harder. The Bears won no less than eighteen (!) medals, seven of which were gold. The fire brigade also won five silver and six bronze.

For example, Garry Van Serveyt was the fastest in the two thousand meter indoor rowing – a category in which the Bears invariably do well. He also won gold in the 500m. The ten Antwerp Fire Dragons – the dragon boat team of the Bears – on the appropriate to ‘dragonboat’ also took home the highest prize. Furthermore, medals were won for triathlon, time trial, cross country, obstacle course and bench press.
