On Monday, the capital city council approved the updating of the transport department – an architectural study of the entire Libeňské soumost, which is located on the border of Prague 7 and Prague 8. According to the municipality, this will speed up the reconstruction and at the same time pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be maintained during the repair period.
As the representatives of the municipality state in the press statement, the newly completed study contains a proposal for a comprehensive solution for the Libeň area and the surrounding area, including coordination with the surrounding projects in the area. It also contains exact specifications of binding architectural and urban planning details.
“During the reconstruction of the Libeň bridge, we will repair the most valuable arches of Pavel Janák. We will build the entire stretch of land from Manín to Palmovce with a length of 1,200 meters, including a retention tank and anti-flood measures, and we will also transform the immediate surroundings. The bridge will attract the people of Prague not only with its beauty, but also with new moments for rest and spending free time. The spaces under the beam structures from Janák’s preserved sketches and historical arches will offer cafes, shops and other services. We are also counting on new approaches to the water and the skate park,” says Deputy Mayor for Transport Adam Scheinherr (Prague itself) in a press statement.
This version is a reworked original study created for the needs of the Design and Build contract from September 18, 2020, and has now been created based on new requirements and findings during the already ongoing design work as part of the Design and Build contract.
The area around the bridge will also undergo radical changes
Specifically, it concerns the processing of the requirements of the owners of the affected land, the company České přístavny a.s., the requirements of the bridge construction designer to change the dimensions and layout of the load-bearing elements of the new bridge constructions, the layout requirements of the designers for the management of utility networks, as well as the coordination of projects with subsequent projects in the territory. In the last row, the shape solution of the newly proposed parts of the bridge is reworked, including the solution of non-residential spaces under the entire bridge, including the design of connected paved areas.
“The historical designation of the bridge as non-reconstructable was only a political decision, without anyone being interested in its real technical condition. We make decisions based on traffic surveys, detailed diagnostics, static and dynamic tests and hard data. The competition for the reconstruction was also unique in that we competed not only for the price, but also for the first time in the history of the city, for the length of the tram line. According to the original project, it was supposed to last two to three years. We postponed it for one year, with the provision that pedestrians and cyclists will always cross the river via a temporary footbridge and public transport will be brought to the bridge from both sides,” adds Deputy Scheinherr.
