The Farmer-Expo in Debrecen holds excitement again this year, they are even planning a drone demonstration
Lectures and round table discussions for farmers try to give them a handhold in the current unpredictable environment; a prominent theme is irrigation, a new approach to animal husbandry, as a novelty there will be drone demonstrations, and the breeders of cold-blooded horses will meet at the Böszörményi úti Campus of the University of Debrecen, at the event from August 17-20. Fair director László Vaszkó said that the opening will be colored by the Bread of Hungarians Program, and that the Carnival Equestrian Cup Cog Driving and Show Jumping Competition, launched last year, will continue. It is expected that the horse shows, tooth drives, and shepherd dog competitions will be popular among the public this year.
Every year, we look for answers to specific pressing problems affecting farmers in the event’s professional programs. Now we can say that everything is about unpredictability, and planability is extremely important in agriculture.
– We don’t know what will happen, there are several crises at the same time: the war going on next door, a drought not seen in a century, high inflation and a great unpredictability of the market – said the fair director László Vaszkó on Thursday in a downtown restaurant, at the press conference announcing the 31st Farmer-Expo.
As he said, at the crop cultivation round table, people with insight into world market processes will express their opinions regarding the challenges of the sector. Among them will be a representative of a company that processes 1 million tons of grain annually; someone who knows the pesticide market and is also a climate researcher. A hundred farmers have already signed up for this program online in advance.
In the fruit and vegetable sector, the theme is water. Field vegetable production does not work without water and added water; whether there will be enough water for modern apple orchards, fields growing tomatoes or cucumbers, and if not, what can be done – they will try to answer this question on August 18 at the HORTICO forum.
– We have been saying for ten years that Hungarian livestock breeding is in crisis, but we always somehow manage to survive. We just see that there are businesses that approach it differently and are very successful. In this variable, high feed or energy prices are in a difficult market situation, yet they achieve different results. Telling how they do it – László Vaszkó recommended the animal husbandry round table.
He called the event of the Hungarian Cold Blood National Association unique. As he said, the Hungarian meat and cold-blooded horse is starting to experience a renaissance, and the breeding organization will hold the first major presentation here with about forty horses; the program will be a “very interesting and exciting highlight” of the exhibition. He also mentioned the workshop for sheep breeders, as well as the pig professional forum, focusing on issues of feeding.
László Vaszkó highlighted the presence of agricultural machinery distributors, who are very proud of him at the Farmer-Expo. As he said, if a farmer wants to buy anything, he can find it here, and he can choose from at least 4-5 types, be it tractors, plows or combines. Drones representing the technology of the future, which are indispensable in precision crop cultivation, will appear as a new element at the exhibition.
Animal shows are always popular among the lay public, this year they will be able to see, among other things, 150 horses, and – in a unique way – it is expected that there will be seven 4-5 horses together. The prize and tooth competition established last year by the Farmer-Expo organizers of the city of Debrecen will continue, but the tooth drive will take place every day.
As a new element, those interested can see a drone demonstration as well as a shepherd dog breed demonstration, the latter of which will surely be a hit with children, and was included in the program with the intention of creating a kind of tradition.
It was also said that this year it is already possible to buy tickets online, which will allow visitors to enter.

Transylvanian farmers are comingÁgnes Kissné Gyarmati, the county director of the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK), reports that she will be present at the event as an exhibitor and with professional programs. Their priority topic is the subsidy system starting in 2023, including green subsidies. This year, the opening of the expo will also be colored by the Magyarok Kenyere Program. – In Hajdú-Bihar as well, farmers collect wheat with great effort every year. This time, unfortunately, there is half of the harvest, but we can see that the strength of the collaboration is not diminishing – emphasized the county leader. He said that the meeting was organized by Farmer-Express for representatives of Transylvanian farmers’ organizations, where they can get the most value in a short time, and they can build business and relationships at the event. The meeting is an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences about village farmer networks that work both here and there. |
