Index – Domestic – Scandal at the Budapest event: “Crying teenagers, screaming parents”
“Crying teenagers, screaming parents, hundreds of meters long lines…” – this is how one of Index’s sources described what happened.
The organizers of MondoCon were first notified early Saturday afternoon that there was a problem and admission had stopped, but they agreed to refund tickets at one of the tents. The post was flooded with outraged comments.
I stood in line for more than 2 hours with 2 children in the sweltering heat, so we traveled up from the countryside. And should I stand in line again to get a refund for the tickets we bought in advance? What procedure is this? I would like a refund of the ticket prices! Thanks! I have to comfort the children…
– wrote one of the visitors who did not make it to the event.
The organizers issued a detailed statement about the incident on Saturday evening. In that it was written: unfortunately, some of the visitors could not be admitted to the event. This has not happened in eight years, and they are extremely sorry that it happened this way.
We are very sorry that we have disappointed so many people. Especially because the situation was partly our fault
they wrote.
They also added that the problem was partly caused by the rain on Saturday, because everyone fled into the buildings, where only a limited number of visitors could be admitted due to security reasons, and thus new people could only be admitted when someone left the event.
We couldn’t do anything about this, we could only do that you offered to redeem the ticket for those who wanted to use it
– wrote the organizers.
Because of what happened, ticket sales were suspended for Sunday. For those who did not use their ticket at all on Saturday, the organizers will refund the ticket price, and as an alternative, they also offered to redeem it for the next MondoCon ticket in the fall.
The organizers on Sunday with another post also applied, it was already written: even those who were able to use their tickets at the current event will receive a discount on the tickets for MondCon in the fall. “We will post the amount of the discount soon. The other options are still live“ they wrote.
