Back to the Norway Cup after fifty years

On Sunday, the Norway Cup kicked off.
In 2022, it will be fifty years since the tournament saw the light of day. Now that the Norway Cup is organized at Ekebergsletta in Oslo.
On that occasion, a show match was played with one of the winning teams from the tournament’s very first season back in 1972.

Gentofte-Vangende Sports Association is the name of the team. In 1972 they won the 12-year-old class at the Norway Cup under coach Julio Marzei.

Fifty years later, the guys on the team have clocked sixty years. Nevertheless, they made the journey from Denmark back to old grass fields. NTB reports this.
On Sunday, the battle was against Fet IL from Fetsund. But unlike in 1972, Gentofte-Vangende Idrætsforening lost, mind you, by a respectable 3-4.
This year’s tournament is the 48th in rain. The Norway Cup was canceled in both 2020 and 2021 due to covid-19, and in 1976 the Oslo Cup was organized in handball.
