Szijjártó: Hungary and Austria are increasing cooperation against illegal migration
Austria and Hungary will further strengthen their cooperation against illegal migration, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, said on Thursday in Vienna. He said: Austria has offered to support the training of Hungarian border hunting units and to increase the number of Austrian border guards currently serving on the Hungarian-Serbian border for the coming period.
Speaking to the public media, the head of the ministry explained: it is clear that the European Union faces several security-related challenges at the same time, and that “dealing with them individually would be very complicated, let alone all at once”.
He believed that in addition to the war, there is another very serious security challenge that Europe is facing and will become more and more serious: illegal migration.
Hungary has stopped 130,000 illegal migrants at its southern border so far this year,
which is more than double last year’s number during the same period, and an even more serious phenomenon is that “the migrants armed themselves and used their weapons partly against each other and partly against the police protecting the Hungarian border“, he explained.
He said: In addition, the number of people smugglers is also increasing, this year the Hungarian police already had to detain 900 smugglers.
“Brussels’ pro-migration policy” provides a sufficient basis for the strengthening of migration waves on the one hand, and the business model of human traffickers on the other hand, he said. He added:
this is extremely dangerous, since “today it is still human trafficking, tomorrow it will be arms smuggling”, and this worsens the security prospects of Central Europe.
He emphasized: because of all this, it is in the interest of Austria and Hungary, as a country affected by illegal migration, to be able to stop the waves of migration as widely as possible, which is why in the future there will be even stronger Hungarian-Austrian cooperation against migration.
These conditions must be met if you want to be a border hunter
The Hungarian Police has already started recruiting border hunters, and the conditions imposed on applicants have been published on police.hu.
Péter Szijjártó stated:
Ausztri recommended support in the training of the Hungarian border hunting units to be created and also,
to increase the number of Austrian border guards serving on the Hungarian-Serbian border for the period to come into effect.
It is also in Austria’s interest to stop migration waves as far away from the country as possible,
“and for us, as Hungarians, it is in our interest that, parallel to our physical forces, Brussels is finally” represent a completely different view on this matter
he said.
He sees that as long as Brussels legally supports and politically inspires migration, the Hungarians and Austrians must make incredible efforts to stop illegal migrants at the border.
