the Moscow Mechanism is being implemented to study the human rights situation in Russia
Communication and weather conditions 37 more countries have activated the Moscow Mechanism of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe for the third time since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This was announced on Thursday by Ned Price, a spokesman for the State Department.
The Moscow case, which involves the creation of expert and preliminary reports on the situation of human rights violations in the country, already recognized by the international community this year, in order to document serious international humanitarian law and human rights violations committed by the armed forces in Ukraine.
This time a mission was set up to study the human rights situation in Russia itself. The reason for this was the recent actions of the Kremlin to restrict freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association, as well as in connection with reports of torture and ill-treatment of people under arrest in Russia.
Investigators should come into force if Russia commits itself to respect for human rights and how civil society property rights, media freedom, the rule of law, and democratic processes and institutions operate.
The mission will prepare a report to be published in September. As Ned Price clarifies, “United weather conditions, our allies and partners will continue to hold Russia’s limitation of liability for human rights violations.”
