Invented in Quessoy, his mini catamaran will cross Calvi-Monaco, towed by a swimmer

You need a good GPS to find Guillaume Turbec’s workshop, in the Espérance area in Quessoy. His own company, GT Design, does not display a clinical sign on the front of the huge building which houses several companies.
It’s not the kind of house.
geofindeverything from the sea
The Guillaume Turbec genre is thinking at nightspin in the shadows and go out to extract from his brains, using his golden fingers, tailor-made prototypes for maritime experiences that are always innovative, constructive and sometimes visionary.
I have a central unit in my head and two 3D printers in place of my hands
This is how the technician is defined who can interrupt a night’s sleep on an idea, to find a way to put it into practice.
The marine environment, I fell into it when I was very young. I was barely walking when I was already on the deck of a boat. My father uses the Chez Loulou fishing shop in Yffiniac in the past.
Kickboard Expert
Sailing, swimming, diving.
The sea fascinates her and it is to move in it as well as possible thathe starts imagining kickboardsin order to move as quickly as possible and to be able to rest in case of fatigue.
A niche. Very few of us know how to do that.
So little that Guillaume Turbec is the reference in the matter throughout the country.
When Remi Camusthe explorer who ran across Australia and swam down the Mekong River, broke his board during his swimming tour of France in 2018, it was Guillaume Turbec he called to make his replacement.
“I was the only one who could provide it to him in such a short time. »
Partner of the adventurer Rémi Camus
Guillaume works alone, without a computer, all by hand. This reduces the delivery time of a project.
So when Rémi Camus took on the new challenge of making swimming across Calvi-Monacoin total autonomy, next autumn, it is still Guillaume that he calls on to invent a boat for him.
Light enough for him to be able to tow it over these 180 km, and large enough for him to take shelter, sleep in it and store his food.
His training as a technician and his great knowledge of the environment make Guillaume Turbec absolutely essential for this type of equipment.
hand carved
He presented a model to Rémi Camus and then he embarked on the construction of the famous catamaran.
3 meters long, 1.80 m wide, solar panels, a rear shelf to be able to equip yourself, hatches accessible from the outside to store wet suits and equipment, the floating anchor.
Sculpted from foam then covered with fiberglass, carbon and epoxy. As usual, Guillaume Turbec worked everything by hand and to measure to bring out this unique specimen.
The underside of the hull is luminescent and we opted for the green color which reflects the light well so that the boat is very visible at night.
A new concept for collecting green algae
Small jewels of innovation like this, Guillaume sketches his workshop full.
“I worked for several months on the design study of a platform for collecting green algae at sea: a mobile barge, capable of intervening quickly in sensitive or difficult areas due to siltation, for example, such as the Hotellier beach in Hillion, the Gouessant estuary or the entrance to Légué.
A complete study file, live tests, Guillaume Turbec is sure:
This achievement will have to validate several technical innovations in the fight against this scourge of green algae in the bay of Saint-Brieuc
Several product developments for boating and safety
Unfortunately, the project presented to the elected officials concerned as well as to the scientists and State representatives in charge of the file has not been followed up.
All correspond to the very interesting concept, but there is no budget.
Guillaume, who estimates the cost of the prototype at €60,000, regrets it.
He has put it aside for the moment and is now working on several product developments for manufacturers in the nautical and security sector.
And he will of course be in Corsica, next September, to see his catamaran set sail following the adventurer Rémi Camus for a feat that will go down in history!
