Ex-distilled wine from the disaster in Dyja Povodí Morava. Speculation, the company responded
Hodovský is convinced that this is the responsibility of the company he led in the past. “The culprit is Povodí. He manages the Nová Mlýna waterworks and, as it turns out, the problem is not in the Dyja river. The causes come from the reservoirs. There is a hydroelectric plant, cyanobacteria. Alternatively, it is also due to the pumping of non-oxygenated water. The responsibility goes to them whether they like it or not. I’ve been around water for thirty years. And some of Povodí’s statements are truly absurd,” said Hodovský. He had to leave his position six years ago, when he was dismissed by the then Ministry of Agriculture, Marian Jurečka.
According to Hodovský, in its plans the Watershed should have evaluated the section below Nový Mlýny as risky in terms of fish deaths and accidental water pollution. According to him, that did not happen. “Klíčové will solve the inflow to the hydroelectric power plant. There is also the question of whether or not to wean her completely over the summer,” thought Hodovský.
The current management of Povodí Morava refused to respond to his words. “We will not comment on these speculations at all,” company spokesperson Petr Chmelař told Deník Rovnost. Some fishermen also criticize the summer treatment of water in Nové Mlýne and subsequently in the river Dyji. A criminal complaint was filed because of him. But others agree that the tragedy cannot be prevented.
Fishermen have already pulled over 40 tons of dead fish from Dyje, more than during the disaster in Bečva
Povodí Moravy has already stated that the overgrowth of cyanobacteria, among other things, is responsible for the death. “Analysis confirmed a high amount of chlorophyll and high organic pollution. According to the analyses, there is also a high phosphorus content in the place, which will not affect the oxygen content, but will create ideal conditions for cyanobacteria. Phosphorus most often gets into waterways from waste water through treatment plants that do not adequately remove it,” announced the Chmelař spokesperson last week.
In the meantime, the firemen, in cooperation with the fishermen, continue with catches. They have already had more than forty tons of fish transported to the rendering plant. “The power plant is still switched off, there are not as many fish swimming on the surface of the Dyje as in the previous days. Relatively cooler water from the bottom of the reservoirs should also flow into the river through the segments. Even with the smell, it’s not as bad as in the past days,” Břeclav Mayor Svatopluk Pěček summarized the conclusions of the Thursday morning meeting.
Another death in Dyja in the Břeclav region: dead fish float to the surface from the bottom
He mentioned that while the transport of dead fish, the rental of containers and the provision of facilities for firefighters and fishermen in the old town, the disposal costs will go to the Moravian Fishery Association. “So far, it’s roughly around four hundred thousand crowns,” outlined Pěček.
The same was confirmed by Lukáš Dubec, South Moravian governor for the environment. “We were hoping that the region would help solve the situation. But we will talk about parts. The final number has not yet been determined, nor is the total available. Both the city and the union will be able to apply,” said Dubec.
He highlighted the work of firefighters and fishermen who, according to him, have the situation fully under control. She described the event on Dyja as an ecological disaster and a warning signal. “We have to learn to work with water better, to retain it as much as possible. Climate change is already starting to show. And now, unfortunately, it has become clear that when several factors appear, such as high temperature, lack of water and a long-lasting problem with high phosphorus content in the water, this will create a fundamental problem,” pointed out Dubec.
