Russia ranked second in the world in downloading VPN services
In March 2022, Russia ranked second in the world in the distribution of VPN services to bypass Internet blocking. About it writes RBC with reference to AppMagic statistics.
In the first three weeks of July, VPN services in Russia were downloaded more than 12 million times. In January 2022, there were two million downloads, Russia ranked 16th in the world by this indicator. Most VPNs were searched for by users from Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, the Kaliningrad and Yaroslavl economies.
The increase in the number of downloads of VPN services over the past five months, interviewed by RBC, was associated with the blocking of social networks after the start of the war in Ukraine, as well as with restrictions on access to a number of popular VPNs that had previously turned to the Russians.
Technical director of Roskomsvoboda Stanislav Shakirov attributed the increase in downloads mainly to the growth in the number of new VPN users in Russia. According to Shakirov, the share of VPN users in Russia could approach 30 percent, which is in line with China.
In the first place in terms of downloading VPN services over the past six months in India, as well as in the top five imported children, Indonesia and the United States, follows from AppMagic data.
