Twenty-three participants. Big parties and bizarre groups are going to the elections in Prague
On the left, the Greens agreed with the Social Democrats and two smaller entities on the Solidarity coalition.
And finally, the right-wing conservative bloc SPOLU pro Praha (ODS, TOP 09, KDU-ČSL) with exponent Bohuslav Svoboda at the head of the candidate is considered to be the winner of the election in advance.
The ideological contrast of the program of this Prague coalition can be seen, among other things, with the Pirate Party, which is also among the five favorites in the elections.

Furthermore, the Praha seba group will compete for voters’ votes. In the elections four years ago, it finished third behind the victorious ODS and represents a third of the serving coalition. He presents himself as the force that got rid of the “gang around ex-deputy mayor Petr Hlubuček” in the city. You also “appropriate” credit for projects launched within the coalition – for example, the start of the construction of metro D, bridges and tram lines, the restoration of the Industrial Palace or the handling of new crossings.
According to electoral leader Jan Čižínský, Prague has an electoral potential of up to 50 percent. This despite the fact that the party did not succeed in collecting descriptions of the people of Prague so that they could run as an independent association of citizens. The volunteers around Čižinski collected signatures until the beginning of this week. Although they got over 90 signatures and in the remaining days they could surpass the thousand mark. According to Čižínský, however, there was a risk of failure due to the possible cutting off of some signatures (for example, illegible ones) and possible legal wrangles due to the instigation of political competition. In the end, the party thus goes into the electoral race through the “legally safer” path of a registered political party.
A smaller association
However, monarchists, for example, will try to compete for the votes of voters in Prague. They are part of the coalition grouping of the Party of Private Owners of the Czech Republic, the Czech Crown, the Conservative Party, and the Club of Engaged Non-Parties. Animal protectors in the group SOS For Animal Rights want to fight for the favor of voters.
Among the smaller local formations, the Society against development construction in Prokopské údolí, Za bezpečnou street in Prague or Lepší Praha pro Pražany are also candidates. For the latter, a condensed program can be read in the name itself, which includes: “a 50% reduction in real estate tax, free public transport, free internet, a better parking system for the benefit of the residents of Prague, affordable housing, a 100% increase in beds in homes for the elderly, a 100% increase in the capacity of social facilities for the handicapped, a fundamental improvement in traffic through Prague, an end to the destruction of green spaces and an end to the blocking of public areas by new construction.”

Another group is called Prague without Chaos and was recently founded by the former head of the DPP on the basis of an older movement. It has three priorities. improving transport, supporting the city’s police and more support for sports.
A single member
The Nevolte Urza.cz party with a single candidate has a touch of parody. This entity has already participated in the previous parliamentary elections and, in addition to the electoral success, wants to spread the ideas of “free market society, freedom and anarcho-capitalism”. “We put up only one candidate, for the municipality of the capital, for the first time this year as an experiment to see if it is meaningful for us to participate in the sei municipal elections. However, it is more important for us to engage in more theoretical and ideological discussions with other politicians, and this is the primary goal of our candidacy – we do not want to succeed in the elections,” said the party’s founder, doctor Tereza Urzová.

As a reaction to the support of cycling and pedestrian traffic, the political association Motoristé seba was created. “We have no ambition to create recipes for solving the problems of education or healthcare, over which other politicians are arguing. We are concerned exclusively with the interests of motorists, who have been bullied by the Prague administration for a long time. Motoring and motoring must finally be given priority over cyclists and green activists in Prague of millions,” said project coordinator Petr Macinka, who has been working at the Václav Klaus Institute for a long time.
He described Prague and the Pirates as “natural adversaries”. In the event of success, he promises “a return to multi-lane roads and the widespread uninstallation of all unnecessary measures by which the current anti-motorist leadership of the capital harasses Prague drivers as part of the so-called traffic calming”.
