Improved Svozil at the camp in Brno: A year in Canada helped, we can have high ambitions
He is experiencing the most demanding summer in his short career so far. Talented hockey defenseman Stanislav Svozil returned to the Brno ice on Tuesday after a strenuous preparation, where he opened a camp with the Czech junior national team at the Lužánky Sports Center. The postponed World Championship in Edmonton, Canada awaits here in less than a month.

And the hockey players thus timed their form for the unusual summer peak of the season. “I’ve only been on the ice once so far, but otherwise I prepared every day in Přerov and Olomouc, it was the most demanding summer in my career. A person doesn’t have much of an appetite for it during this period, but it’s not the worst,” admits the former brilliant talent of Komety.
Of those, the 19-year-old quarterback, drafted last year by the Columbus Blue Jackets, headed to the Canadian junior competition a year ago, where he did well in the Regina Pats jersey. He collected forty-one points in fifty-six games. “The season went well, although of course, it always gets better. I managed to improve a lot of aspects in my game. I’m just sorry that we didn’t manage to advance to the playoffs,” admitted the native of Přerov.

The part entered the formation with the greatest of the talents of the current hockey Connor Bed, who was one clear draft next year. “With him, the body is collected easily. I have never seen a better player live. At the beginning of the season, the game was backwards, but gradually it improved and you can play anything,” he highlighted his star player even more.
In the national team, Svozil will meet his possible future club partner David Jiříček, who was also drafted sixth overall last week by Columbus. In the future, the creation of a purely Czech defensive duo in the NHL team is not ruled out. “I don’t know,” Svozil laughed and added. “Perhaps sometime in the future yes. Anyway, I’m looking forward to David. We wrote to each other. I wished him good luck in the draft and that Columbus would select him, which he did. In a sense, we are competitors, but most of all he is a great friend.”
The dream of a talented quarterback is the NHL, he seems to get a glimpse of it in the next season, he dares not guess. “Everyone wants to play there, but right now I can’t say where I see myself. We will see according to the camp in September,” emphasized Svozil.
Now he has the upcoming world championship on his mind. “Not everyone is here in Brno yet, but when I saw the names, our ambitions can be high, but we have to keep our feet on the ground,” added Svozil.
