HEAT WEATHER: “The government is being used”, assures Élisabeth Borne
Temperatures could permanently exceed 30° in the coming days. The government plans to activate the ORSEC “health management of heat waves” system.
Press release from the Prime Minister of July 12, 2022:
Severe heat wave: the Government is mobilized with all State services.
In anticipation of an episode of severe heat wave announced by the services of Météo France in the coming days, the Prime Minister, Elisabeth BORNE, has asked all members of the Government to be mobilized.
Heat has a very rapid impact on the state of health of populations, particularly the most vulnerable. In this context, all the players in the territories must be mobilized. This is the meaning of the instruction directed by the Prime Minister to her ministers to ensure their full mobilization.
The Government ensures the activation of the ORSEC “health management of heat waves” system in all departments on heat wave alert, the mobilization and awareness of all actors: State services, local authorities , health and medico-social establishments (in particular accommodation establishments for dependent elderly people), companies most exposed to outdoor work, transport companies but also organizers of sporting or cultural events, particularly outdoors .
Communication actions will also be deployed to remind the population of prevention messages and in particular fragile people (infants, elderly people, people with disabilities, pregnant women) or people overexposed to heat (homeless people, workers overexposed to heat, athletes, etc.).
The Prime Minister asked all the ministers concerned to mobilize:
The Minister of the Interior and Overseas Territories, Gérald DARMANIN, the Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, Christophe BÉCHU, the Minister of Health and Prevention, François BRAUN and the Minister of Solidarity, Autonomy and people with disabilities, Jean-Christophe COMBE ensured the mobilization of prefectures, regional health agencies relaying messages of prevention and protection of the population throughout the territory.
Olivier DUSSOPT, Minister of Labour, Full Employment and Integration, is mobilizing the companies most exposed to outdoor work, to make them aware of the health risks associated with this episode of severe heat wave and to take all the necessary measures to adapt work organizations.
Marc FESNEAU, Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, is setting up a national drought committee this week to raise awareness among all stakeholders and take the necessary measures for the proper use of water.
Olivier KLEIN, Minister Delegate to the Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, in charge of Cities and Housing, will be particularly mobilized on the issue of the reception of people in an emergency situation.
