eROSITA of the Spektr-RG observatory
In the near future, Russian specialists will independently activate the German eROSITA telescope installed on the Spektr-RG onboard orbital observatory. This was announced by the head of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Alexander Sergeev.
Recall that Spektr-RG is a Russian-German project related to the study of the Universe in the field of detecting long waves. The device is equipped with two aerial telescopes with optical oblique incidence – ART-XC (RF) and eROSITA (Germany).
At the beginning of March next year, Germany, due to the current geopolitical situation, turned off its sensor on Spektra-RG. After that, Roskosmos announced its intention to independently return the eROSITA instrument to work.
Dmitry Rogozin, Director General of the Roscosmos State Corporation, noted that the activity of the German Aviation and Cosmonautics Center (DLR) has increased to disrupt a unique scientific program to map the entire sky in the solar spectrum.
“We continue to study the adaptation of our control to the control of the German telescope [eROSITA] so that we become full owners of the entire space observatory. Let’s get the job done quickly. We assured the RAS that it will be done by top-level professionals“, – said Dmitry Rogozin.
And now it has become known that Russian specialists will not rush to include eROSITA. As the head of the Russian Academy of Sciences noted, Russian scientific associations do not agree with the inclusion of the German telescope, since in the future this may seem like irreversible consequences in terms of the joint operation of eROSITA and ART-XC.
“We still say that we have to be very careful with this sensitivity as eROSITA is a German sensor.“, – Interfax quotes the words of Mr. Sergeev.
