Globus will open a new hypermarket in Prague next year. More than two hundred people should find work in it Company | News | Prague Gossip
Next spring, the Globus retail chain will open a new hypermarket in the Czech Republic after roughly 12 years. The 16th large-format store will be located in the Europark shopping center in Prague and will employ 210 people.
The last store was opened in Havířov
A restaurant will be the first to start operating on the site this fall, and a hypermarket will be added in the spring along with its own confectionary, bakery and butcher’s production. The new hypermarket will also serve as a delivery point for orders from the iGlobus.cz online store. The last hypermarket company put into operation on November 25, 2011 in Havířov.
The hypermarket will be on the ground floor of the shopping center in Štěrboholy, it will occupy about 11 thousand square meters, the sales area will be spread over six thousand square meters. On the first floor, a restaurant will operate on an area of 1,289 square meters. “In addition to the hypermarket and restaurant, the range of services includes Globus Café, iGlobus.cz and the sales counter of our own charcuterie specialties, including the new concept of the Globus poultry butchery, which offers litter-fed chickens with a fattening period of 56 days. That’s almost twice as much as regular chickens,” said the company’s executive Johann Baab.
Albert leaves Europark
Globus will be looking for employees for the new branch, I expect to hire 210 people. Company spokeswoman Aneta Turnovská told ČTK that in addition to cashiers, storekeepers or salespeople, they are also looking for bakers, confectioners, butchers and cooks.
Globus in Europark will replace the Albert hypermarket. The company has not yet responded to the question why the network is leaving the location.
Globus entered the Czech market in 1991, the first hypermarket company opened five years later in Brno. It currently operates 15 hypermarkets in the country. In the past financial year, which lasted from July 1, 2020 to June 30 of the clean year, the company reported a profit of 223.7 million crowns. Sales amounted to 23.4 billion crowns.
A hypermarket is a store with an area of between 2,500 and roughly 20,000 square meters, with around 300 operating in the Czech Republic. Experts previously stated that the era of large-format hypermarkets with an area of significantly more than 10,000 square meters, which dominated the Czech market in the first decade of the 21st century, is already overcome. Merchants, on the other hand, have started to downsize their stores and place more and more emphasis on improving the quality of services.
