Will the Ford GT 40 sold at auction near Toulouse reach a million euros?
A rare Ford GT 40 will go on sale this Sunday at Château de Lasserre in Montastruc-la-Conseillère, near Toulouse. This rare model is ready to race. It is reserved for a wealthy buyer.
It is once again to an exceptional sale that invites this Sunday, at the castle of Lasserre, in Montastruc-la-Conseillère, the auctioneer Stanislas Machoir. A rare (and expensive) model will be offered to lovers of fine mechanics since it is an emblematic Ford GT 40 which will be the star of the day. A famous pale blue racing monster, this car has been the star of many films. Steve MacQueen uses it, in 1970, for the high speed scenes in the film Le Mans. It is also one of the mechanical monsters of the film Le Mans 66, released in 2019, which evokes the development of this car aimed at making life difficult for Ferraris.
The GT 40 sold this Sunday at Lasserre is “a chassis 1113 model, in excellent condition, strictly ready to race. It is followed by Courage Classic and in particular by its engine manufacturer, Jean-Luc. It will be sold with its overhauled engine and a large batch of parts (12 wheels, 1 gearbox, chassis parts, etc.). As well as very important historical documentation and dozens of photos in progress and during important events”, revealed Stanislas Machoir.
Very high price
The auctioneer, also a seasoned racing driver, recalls that this is “a road car which therefore did not know, in its time, the glory of the circuits”. But, he specifies, “on the other hand, it is a GT40 with an indisputable and undisputed history”.
This GT40 was transformed into a racing car, like most Mark llls in their time. “Since its restoration, it has had a very brilliant life which makes it a guest car on all the major historical events” remarks Stanislas Machoir.
The track record of this car is brilliant if we are to believe the inexhaustible Stanislas Machoir: “until 2013, it will mainly take part in the World Sportscar Masters events (now the FIA Historic Prototypes Championship) as well as in more than 30 events on the most beautiful circuits in Europe. It passed through the hands of prestigious drivers: Jean-Claude Andruet, Françols Migault, Yves Courage and, of course, Alain Schlesinger. At the same time as these “official” events, she won some spectacular races such as the Malta Grand Prix. »
Another particularity in this sale is the value of this car. The GT 40 is not intended for all budgets. Its starting price is announced at €750,000 for a sale that the auctioneer already estimates at €1 million and who knows, maybe even more if true connoisseurs are to be believed.
