New Covid wave in Bulgaria, the expert pact calls for vaccination
New Covid wave in Bulgaria. The percentage of positive samples does not stop growing. the 17% of tests carried out nationwide so far.
The increase in the number of cases is due to the new sub-variants of Omicronsay the health experts. In Bulgaria, they were imported from Greecewhere over 25,000 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours alone.
However, the new sub-variants of Omicron are more infectious and manage to bypass the immunity shown against it more easily. All the experts say that for now the best way to prevent the infection is vaccination.
Contrary to expectations that we will spend a summer without Covid, Bulgaria is already entering a new wave. However, experts hope that it will pass more easily and that hospitals will not be overcrowded.
“I’m glad as a doctor that this option is more gentle and runs milder for most infected, but that doesn’t mean zero risk”says virologist Lyubomira Nikolaeva-Glomb.
“The clinical course of the cases is relatively mild. Not that individual people do not need to enter the hospital, but their percentage is quite low. So far, the increased disease does not seriously affect the pressure on the medical facilities.”the chief state health inspector Assoc. Angel Kunchev.
Hospitals in Sofia have already provided information on how many Covid beds they have and their readiness to welcome the new wave.
“They are ready. Especially those who carried out the difficulty and in the front waves, have much more experience, much more means. They have learned about diagnostics, and about help, and about behavior.”he added.
You are unlikely to reach more serious Covid restrictions at this stage, but health authorities recommend wearing masks in some indoor places.
“When gathering more people in public transport, in medical facilities. Even if it is not distributed, it is not clear to everyone that this is an effective measure, like hygiene and keeping a distance. And vaccination remains the best protection against the virus”said Kunchev.
Dr. Vyara Georgieva from the Metropolitan Regional Health Inspectorate notices that recently people are starting to be immunized again.
“Especially after the second booster dose started to be administered, there is a strong interest in the immunizations. people shared that they are going to travel to Greece and this is the reason to come and get immunized,” said Dr. Georgieva.
However, the number of tests for Covid-19 has decreased.
Prof. Glomb says that too few samples arrive at the Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases for sequencing because most people are screened with rapid antigen tests rather than PSR.
