an evening to celebrate Spain
Spain invites itself to the Pink City! This Friday, July 8 is indeed the 3th edition of “Spain on its 31 – The Andalusian night” in Toulouse. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. at the County Council.
This musical event was launched in 2019, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the exile of the Spanish Republicans. At the helm of programming, Vicente Pradal is a Spanish songwriter born in Toulouse. He is notably at the origin of the “Toulouse the Spanish” festivalwhich he directed from 2009 to 2014.
A Toulouse group opening
“The Andalusian night” aims to “promote artists reflecting the diversity of Spain to the sound of the big names in Andalusian music and flamenco”, explains the Department in a press release. For the 2022 edition, the evening will begin with a Sevillian ball hosted by the Toulouse group Careos. The public will thus be able to learn about the Sevilliantraditional dance from Seville.
The evening will continue with a Maria Terremoto concert, called “the princess of cante jondo”, a Spanish singer from Jerez de la Frontera, in the south of Andalusia. Finally, the event will end with a performance by Juan Manuel Montoya. The dancer is nicknamed Farruquito in honor of his grandfather, Farruco, an emblematic flamenco dancer.
About 1,200 spectators are thus expected in the courtyard of the Hôtel du Département. This event is an opportunity to celebrate the ties that unite Spain to Toulouse and its region, historic land of Spanish exile under the Franco regime. Georges Méric, president of the departmental council of Haute-Garonne, thus salutes a “privileged space for meetings, sharing and emotion between artists and the public”.
