Transport Online – Successful start of Transavia summer flights from Brussels Airport
ZAVENTEM – On June 30, Transavia started with the first summer flights from Brussels Airport. All first flights were almost fully booked. And also for this summer the occupation of the flights looks very good. There is a lot of demand for the four destination destinations of Ibiza, Faro, Heraklion and Alicante and the traveler has already found the way to Transavia from Belgium. It is estimated that approximately 90 percent of the passengers come from Belgium and 10 percent from the Netherlands.
From Brussels, Transavia brings four times a week to Ibiza and Faro, five to six times a week to Alicante and twice a week to Heraklion. To make this possible, Transavia is making one aircraft to Brussels. This winter, Transavia will fly from Brussels to the destinations Tenerife, Salzburg, Alicante and Innsbruck.
Even before corona dominated the economy and society, Transavia already had plans to start flights from Brussels Airport. In the past two years, in addition to planning and maintaining the Transavia network in the Netherlands, the possibilities for the network in the long(er) term have also been examined. And the choice for Brussels is not valid. This is also apparent from last winter, which has already been successfully flown to Innsbruck.
Strengthen market position
“Our flights from Brussels Airport strengthen our position in the Dutch and Belgian market,” said Marcel de Nooijer, General Manager of Transavia. “Many of our current customers and business partners already come from Belgium and the southern Netherlands. That is why we see the start of flying from Brussels as a good step to continue to provide existing customers in Belgium and the Netherlands with their wishes with a number of upcoming reception. This is for both exploring a new market as well as other of a practical position close to our home bases in Rotterdam Eindhoven. We are looking forward to our start in Brussels with confidence and depending on growth and demand, we are examining whether we can expand here as well.”
ˆWe are pleased to be able to welcome Transavia to Brussels Airport at the start of this summer holiday, with their flights to four popular sunny destinations,” says Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport Company. “With this we not only strengthen our network at Brussels Airport, but we also offer our passengers a wider choice in the range of holiday destinations. As a strong Dutch brand with sustainable ambitions, Transavia is a logical new partner for us, and we are happy to welcome you to our airport family. †
