Floorball: Hanover Mustangs runner-up after final drama
Hanover. Jay Keller (2) was very hot for the gold medals and wanted to steal the set before the award ceremony. His father Jeff Keller’s team deserved them. After the unfortunate and dramatic 9:10 defeat in the final, the Hanover Mustangs only managed to win silver in the floorball championships on the small field at home. Winner and defending champion in the IGS Roderbruch: the Schkeuditz jackals from Saxony.

“You can’t win in the penalty box”
The Mustangs won all three group games on Saturday and easily prevailed in the semifinals as well. In the final, the decimated team showed heart and struggle. However, after the 1-0 lightning start and the 3-1 lead, the guests, who acted more calmly, caught up. After the 3:3 nobody was able to get away by more than one goal, the lead changed back and forth. However, the whirling Mustangs conceded too many penalties. “You have to stay cool, you can’t win in the penalty box,” murmured Mustangs club boss and Hanover’s ice hockey legend Bruce Keller in the stands. Twelve seconds before the end, Schkeuditz close with the 10:9. The last attempts of the Mustangs failed. The jackals danced, the team of player-coach Jeff Keller dropped their heads, fired bats and balls across the field in the first frustration.
Nevertheless: The runner-up is the greatest success in the club’s history. “I’m incredibly proud of the team,” said Jeff Keller. “Unfortunately, the penalties broke our necks,” said his brothers Marc and Maurice.
