Switzerland’s largest airport sees itself well prepared for the summer holidays that are about to begin. The airport operator announced on Monday that there were enough staff to handle the expected number of flights.

According to the announcement, Zurich Airport expects several days in the coming weeks between 80’000 and 90’000 passengers. As is usual in high season, the airport recommends travelers to allow enough time for their arrival and to arrive at the airport up to three hours before the departure time of their flight.
“As a rule, there are enough staff available at Zurich Airport”, writes the airport operator. However, delays due to staff shortages at airports or air traffic control throughout Europe could also affect Zurich Airport abroad. However, Zurich Airport and its partner companies are working flat out to minimize these effects.
However, situations of overcrowded airports and flight cancellations due to a lack of staff have recently been an issue again and again, both in Switzerland and abroad. Above all, a lack of staff is causing difficulties for the airport-related industry. For example, the airline Swiss – and with it various other airlines in Europe – had to cancel hundreds of flights in the summer, primarily because there was a lack of staff.
At the ground handling company Swissport, which handles various airlines at Zurich Airport – including the home airline Swiss – employees have recently expressed skepticism in the media about whether they could cope with the summer. There are too few staff for too much work, it was said. Among other things, the employees even threatened to go on strike.
