We know this about the perpetrator – VG
COPENHAGEN (VG) A 22-year-old Danish man has been arrested for the shooting at Field’s in Copenhagen. He must have access to various weapons.
The suspected perpetrator is a 22-year-old ethnic Danish man. Police have not released the name and photo of the suspected perpetrator.
The 22-year-old must have lived close to the shopping center.
Three people were killed. Four people were hit by shots and are hospitalized. For one of them, the condition Monday morning remains critical.
On Monday afternoon, the accused was produced for remand in custody in Copenhagen City Court. VG existed present in the courtroom, in hall courtroom 60, when the 22-year-old was escorted in by police, wearing a blue t-shirt and blue pants. He was led in and out of the meeting handcuffed by three uniformed police officers.
The 22-year-old is charged with three murders and seven attempted murders. He would not explain how he views the charge before the prison meeting was closed to the press – and how he views the question of guilt was also not known when the judge explained the verdict.
Present evidence
After nearly hours, the judge ruled that the accused be remanded in custody for 24 days in a closed psychiatric ward. An examination of his mental state is also requested.
The judge says that there is reason to believe that he will commit a new crime or remove clues and evidence that are important to the investigation, if he is released. The court has emphasized testimony, photos and that he had a rifle when he was arrested.
Prosecutor Søren Harbo says after the meeting that he will be transferred to a closed psychiatric ward as soon as they find a vacancy.
Bar rifle and knife
The suspected perpetrator was apprehended with a rifle, ammunition and a knife. Police have also stated that he has access to a gun, according to Jyllands-Posten.
According to Ekstra Bladet, the 22-year-old was a member of a shooting club. The newspaper also writes that the rifle he uses in the attack is of the Sauer brand. The other weapon has access to be a Walther P38.
According to Thomassen, it appears that the suspect did not have a firearms permit.
– As it looks now, the weapons are legal, but he has not had permission, he says.
He was arrested 13 minutes after police received the first report of the shooting at 5.35pm.
Known for psychiatry
The accused also had a knife on him when he was arrested. Police have also said he has access to a gun, according to Jyllands-Posten.
The police do not suspect terrorism as a motive and believe the perpetrator acted alone. The accused is known to the police from before, but not for any serious circumstances.
Thomassen stated at a press conference on Monday that the accused is known to psychiatry, but would not comment on whether he himself had sought health care.
The suspected perpetrator in Copenhagen must have contacted the crisis line before the shooting, according to Denmark’s radio. The police did not want to comment on the information.
Videos on YouTube
The day before the attack, several videos were released on a YouTube account apparently belonging to the accused.
VG has posted the current videos, which show a young man posing with a rifle and a gun. They are all last up Friday 1. July with the same English title: «I do not care», which in Norwegian means «I do not care».
The young men filming themselves are not talking on the videos, but music can be heard in the background.
One of the videos also had the caption “Quetiapine does not work”, which means that “Quetiapine” does not work. This is a medication that can be used to treat mental disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and mania.
The same account has also posted four playlists of videos, including titles linked to homicides.
The police also confirm to Jyllands-Posten that they have become aware of four Youtube videos and that it is part of the investigation.
Deputy police inspector Lars Karlsen would neither confirm nor deny whether men in the video are the Danish 22-year-old who the police believe is behind the mass shooting.
Police Chief Søren Thomassen was informed at a press conference that the accused appears in some videos on social media and that the police’s work to get these removed.
The video has now been removed from YouTube.
