Prague is looking for a Christmas tree. For a tip on the ideal one, the reward is ten thousand | Company | News | Prague Gossip
Although the summer holidays have only just begun, preparations for the Prague Christmas markets are already in full swing. The search for their symbol for the Old Town Square began, a tree that will stand between the monument to Master Jan Hus and the Marian Column. A tip that leads to choosing the right one will win ten thousand crowns.
This year’s Christmas markets will start on November 26 and end on January 6 next year. Throughout this time, the Old Town Square will also be decorated with a traditional tree, which is now being sought. People who know of a suitable one can contact the market organizers directly.
It should be a solid spruce, with evenly growing branches, regular trunk, 23 to 25 meters high. I will subsequently adjust the height to 22 meters for safety. The tree must also be 100% healthy. This will be checked by dendrologists from the Mendel University in Brno.
The Christmas tree from the Old Town Square found a new use. After the holidays, the wood went to the Secondary Vocational School in Jarov, where it was processed by students. They made two bookcases and an insect hotel out of it, which will primarily serve Homes for the elderly…
“Anyone can give a tip on a suitable tree and they don’t even have to be the owner of the tree. It is enough to know about an interesting spruce and draw attention to it. All the trees that decorated the Old Town Square during the previous eight had to be cut down for reasons of safety or planned construction activities.” she said in a press release Hana Tietzeováspokesman for the Christmas Markets in Old Town and Wenceslas Square 2022.
The person who offers the winning tree or gives a tip on it will receive ten thousand crowns.
Last year, the organizers received about thirty tips from all over the Czech Republic, from which they selected a 22-meter-tall, 54-year-old spruce from the Liberec region.
