in Toulouse, unions challenge the working conditions of early childhood staff
On the occasion of the day of early childhood professionals in the city of Toulouse, the Sud and CGT unions warn of the deterioration of working conditions, detrimental to agents and families.
It is a day of work, of reflection on the professions of early childhood to which all the agents of this sector of the city of Toulouse are invited. On this occasion, the nurseries are closed. The strike notice from the Sud and CGT unions will therefore have no impact on families, but the two union organizations also wanted to make it a day of mobilization, information and warning.
According to their representatives, the sector is suffering. And poor working conditions. “The agents are exhausted, there are a lot of sick leaves“, explains Yannick Teboul, of the South union. “For several months, the opening hours of certain crèches have been reduced, opening later and closing at 5:30 p.m. Imagine what that means for families…“
In question, the recurring lack of staff. Already existing, it has worsened with the health crisis linked to the coronavirus epidemic. “The community is unable to recruit“, confirms Philippe Girard, of the Sud union. “Substitutions are more difficult, or agents crack, are arrested and are not replaced, it’s a spiral. Suddenly, the professionals have the impression of no longer being able to exercise their profession correctly and to do childcare“.
A problem that should be addressed during this day of early childhood professionals. The president of the “early childhood” sector committee, installed last November by the government in order to deal with the shortage of professionals and to respond to the feeling of lack of recognition of the agents, will intervene there.
