The Danish Crown Prince and Crown Princess take the children out of controversial school
Prince Christian is leaving school, and Princess Isabella will not start there as planned, according to a statement from the Crown Prince and Crown Princess on the Danish royal family’s websites.
The decision was made in the wake of criticism of the school, most recently from one supervisory authority in a prior assessment of the well-being of the educational institution.
– It has been a difficult process for us as a family. But based on the overall picture and our special position as crown prince couple, we have chosen that Prince Christian ends at Herlufsholm, and that Princess Isabella does not start in 9th grade at school after the summer holidays, says the crown prince couple.
In May sent Danish TV 2 the documentary «Herlufsholm’s secrets», which a number of former students stood up and told about bullying, violence and sexual abuse. This led to the dismissal of the then principal. On Saturday, it was announced from Herlufsholm that the school board is resigning.
Professor Peter Allerup at the Danish Institute for Pedagogy and Education believes that historically harsh criticism is directed at the boarding school.
– It is unique, and I have not previously put a critique that is more and harsh. When there is so much pressure from the supervisory authority, it is because it has been a board and a principal who have reacted in the past, he says to Ritzau on Sunday.
The Crown Prince and Crown Princess will have to make a decision about their future school choices with their children after the summer.
