The national police and the national gendarmerie have launched for several years a program of patrols carried out by police officers or gendarmes who inspect your entrances and gardens. A way to deter burglars from taking action.
For the sake of modernity and simplification, a platform common to all the national police, gendarmerie and prefecture services makes it possible to carry out procedures including registration with operation tranquility vacation.
- Inform those around you of your departure (family, friend, neighbour, caretaker, etc.).
- Forward your mail or have it picked up by someone you trust: a mailbox overflowing with folds reveals a long absence.
- Forward your calls from your landline to your cell phone or another line. Do not indicate your dates on your email!
- Never post your vacation dates on social media and make sure your kids do the same. It is also not recommended to publish your vacation photos. All this information reflects the action of the burglars.
If you are the victim of a burglary, the first thing to do is to immediately notify the police or the gendarmerie by calling 17.
If the burglars are still there, don’t take unnecessary risks; Prioritize the collection of identification elements (type of vehicle, language, description, clothing, etc.).
Before the arrival of the police, it is important to keep the clues that can help the investigation: do not touch any object and prohibit access to the place.
Once the findings have been made, file an objection with your bank if your checks and credit cards have been stolen and file a complaint at the police station or the gendarmerie brigade. You will need to bring an ID. To save time, you can file an online pre-complaint.
Once the complaint has been filed, report the theft to your insurer, by registered letter within two working days. You can attach a list of stolen objects, possibly with their estimate.
