BBC reveals names of 4,000 dead soldiers
BBC journalists reported that by June 24, they managed to establish the names of 4,010 Russian soldiers who died during the invasion of Ukraine through a source of operational access. These statistics also included Russian citizens who went to fight voluntarily.
Journalists note that the number of dead volunteers is “growing rapidly” and the losses among them are reported more often than any other category of the population. Every week there are 30-40 volunteers, 20 percent of them are people over 50 years old.
It is also reported that among all the dead, 17 percent are officers. The BBC links such losses in the command balance with the participation of the Russian army. 20 percent of the dead served in the Airborne Forces, 19 percent – in motorized rifle troops. The BBC also reports at least 42 military pilots.
Earlier, Mediazona published information about 3,798 servicemen who died in Ukraine. These are only publicly confirmed losses. Journalists are guided by open information about deaths and funerals provided by both the federal and Ukrainian military departments, reports by the heads of Russian regions and the mass media. Real accidental losses, according to the compilers of the report, can be seen more. Journalists noted that most of the losses were among the paratroopers, soldiers of motorized rifle formations and tankers.
On February 24, Russia invaded the territory on the orders of Vladimir Putin. The last time on March 25, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported 1,351 dead and 3,825 wounded. In addition to the actual military personnel of the Russian army, employees of the Russian Guard, fighters of armed groups, the so-called “DNR” and “LNR” and, probably, mercenaries of mobile military companies are also fighting on the Russian side in Ukraine. Data about them are not included in the statistics of the Ministry of Defense.
According to British military intelligence, by the end of May, Russia had lost about 15,000 people in Ukraine. According to the General Staff of Ukraine, the death toll exceeded 30 thousand. In combat conditions, the casualties of the parties have not been verified independently.
