Scholarships were handed over at the General Assembly in Debrecen
Excellent athletes
The aim of the Béla Békessy sports scholarship, founded by the local government of Debrecen in 2016, is to promote successful participation in international sports competitions. It can be donated to an athlete competing in the Debrecen sports organization, participating in individual or team sports, amateur or professional, or in the oldest youth, who has achieved an outstanding result at the Olympics, Paralympics, World Games, World Championships, World Cups or European Championships.
In 2022, seven people received the scholarship.
The Béla Békessy sports scholarship holder of the local government donated to Csaba Arany, an athlete and triathlete.
In 2021, Csaba won first place at the Košice International Half Marathon and the National Championship. Aquatlon also boasts 8th place in the European Championships and 4th in the U23.
The municipality donated a Béla Békessy sports scholarship to Dániel Göttlinger, a wheelchair fencer.
Daniel won a silver medal at the 2021 World Cup in Pisa as a member of the wheelchair sword team. Sword is a national champion in individual events and a silver medal in duel. It also boasts a podium finish at several World Cups.
The Local Government of the City of Debrecen donated the Béla Békessy Athlete’s Award to Luca Kozák’s athlete.
Luca finished 24th in the 20-meter hurdles at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Last year, he finished 8th at the European Indoor Championships at the 60-meter hurdle. It also boasts 13th place in the World Championship and 8th and 12th place in the European Championship.
The local government of Debrecen donated a Béla Békessy sports scholarship to the Balázs Panni Karate.
Panni was able to rise to third place on the podium at the 2022 Polish Adult European Championships. He won 2nd place at the Hungarian Adult Championship and a gold medal in 2021. Gold medalist at the 2019 U20 European Championships. Panni is currently in a training camp, so her mother, Attila Balázs, received the recognition.
The Local Government of the City of Debrecen donates a Béla Békessy sports scholarship to Katinka, a fencer from Battai Sugár.
Ray finished in 8th place at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics as a member of the Hungarian women’s sword team. In 2022, he placed 3rd and 5th in the team at the World Cup and 14th in the individual. He is a junior European champion and bronze medalist, as well as a junior world champion in the third individual, while a silver medalist in a team. Ray is currently competing in the European Championships.
The Local Government of the City of Debrecen with a Béla Békessy sports scholarship donated by dr. Ludman-Mihály Kata for fencing.
Kata was a participant in the 2022 Duel World Cup. Individual Hungarian Cup 2nd, 8th and 9th place, and bronze medalist of the 2019 National Duel Championship. In the same year at the 29th individual at the Bratislava World Cup. Kata was unable to attend the handover due to her urgent busy schedule.
The Local Government of the City of Debrecen donated to Béla Békessy, a sports scholarship holder, and Petra Senánszky.
At the 2021 World Championships in Tomsk, Petra was able to step up to the concrete stage of the pitcher in the 50- and 100-meter fins and as a relay member of the 4×100-meter mix. He won the gold medal of the Eger World Cup in the 50-meter fins. Petra is currently competing in the “World Water Championship” in Budapest.
A “talents”
The municipality also established the Cívis Talentum Scholarship in 2016, which aims to contribute to successful participation in international competitions. The scholarship can be awarded to a talented high school student studying in Debrecen who, in addition to his school studies, has participated in an international study competition in the field of humanities, realities, foreign languages, arts, IT and vocational training, and also provides exemplary, outstanding performance for his fellow students.
In 2022, five people received the scholarship.
The Local Government of the City of Debrecen donated a Cívis Talent Scholarship to Nándor Fiók.
Nándor is a student of Árpád Tóth High School. He has participated in several study competitions in recent years, including in math, chemistry and computer science. In the 2020/21 academic year, at the Nemes Tihamér International Informatics Study Competition, “application” category II. reached nationwide 3rd in its age group. In the 2021/22 academic year, IT was ranked 20th in category I at OKTV.
The Municipality of the City of Debrecen donated a Cívis Talent scholarship to Zoltán Kertész.
Balázs is a graduate student of the Dóczy Grammar School of the Reformed College in Debrecen. He has been interested in the operation of the Universe since he was a child, so he wants to do astronomy. In both the 2019/20 and 2020/21 school years, he entered the Olympic team of the International Student Academy of Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA), where he received Olympic praise in both school years. In the 2021/22 school year, he won third place in the Athletica Galactica Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition in the Carpathian Basin, making it the third time he entered the Olympic team for the International Student Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad.

Otto is a graduate student of the Dóczy Grammar School of the Reformed College in Debrecen. In the 2020/21 academic year, chemistry was ranked 13th on the OKTV, while in the 2021/22 academic year, chemistry was ranked 30th on the OKTV. At the same OKTV, the heavier II. became 8th in category. He has been an Olympian since April 2022, so he will have the opportunity to represent Hungary at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) and compete with teams from 77 other countries.
The Municipality of the City of Debrecen donated a Cívis Talent Scholarship to Péter Bendegúz Vámosi.
Bendegúz is a student of the Fazekas Mihály Grammar School. He attends math, computer science and science competitions where he enters successfully. Last year, at the Hungarian national team of the EJOI Youth Informatics Olympiad, she was the only one of the seventh age group to represent our country. In 2021 and 2022 he took part in the Noble Tihamér International Programming Competition, where he won 6th and 3rd place, respectively. Winner of the 2021 Kangaroo International Math Competition. Bendegúz is not in Debrecen, his mother received the recognition.
The Local Government of the City of Debrecen donated a Cívis Talent scholarship to Csaba Debreczeni.
Csaba is studying at the Mihály Fazekas High School in Debrecen. His main interests are geography. In the 2020/21 academic year, he won first place in both the Less Nándor National Geography Competition and the Lajos Lóczy National Geography Competition. The former took second place this school year. In the 2020/21 academic year, he won the László Jakucs International Geography Competition, while he won 2nd place at the Globe International Geography Competition. Unfortunately, Csaba is not in Debrecen, so he could not be present at the handover.
