Russia for the first time in 10 years joined the Red Cross crew
Chairman of the Russian Red Cross Pavel Savchuk joined the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies from the European region. The organization entered the leadership of the ICRC for the first time in 10 years, Interfax reports.
The press service of the RKK said that Savchuk’s election allows promoting the interests, experience and proposals of the organization, and will also increase the status of the RKK within the international movement.
Voting took place on June 19 on the basis of the natural federation. This year, representatives of 27 countries were elected to the governing body of the Federation, of which they held 20. In addition to Russia, the board included France, Bulgaria, Iceland, the Netherlands, Malaysia, New Zealand, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and other countries.
“The election of the Russian Red Cross Society became possible thanks to the reboot of the RKK, all the interests of our activities, the launch of new projects. We worked hard on our projects and programs, met with colleagues from other National Societies, and it bore fruit,” Savchuk said.
He said that the organization is ready to put forward private initiatives and use the accumulated experience. In particular, in the medical plans of RKK, centers of organizations are opened in regions with an insufficient level of health, the development of an internship program for young people and volunteers following the example of large international companies, and more.
