Debrecen is also preparing for the St. Ladislaus Days in Oradea Hungarian Courier
Debrecen’s participation in the St. Ladislaus Days in Oradea marks another chapter in the history of centuries-old relations between the two cities, which not only revives their common history but also strengthens twinning relations, said István Puskás, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen the city also welcomes events, as culture is a really good place to strengthen communities.
Debrecen will also present its cultural programs at the one-week series of events. The deputy mayor emphasized that the photo clubs of the two cities, the long-established Oradea Photo Club and the ninety-year-old Debrecen Photo Club will operate almost as one, and this joint exhibition will be confirmed at the St. Ladislaus Days.
Gyula Zatykó, the main organizer of the St. Ladislaus Days, the vice-president of the Hungarian People’s Party of Transylvania, spoke about St. Ladislaus as a saint and a warrior king who defended the borders at that time. As he said, perhaps few people know that King St. Ladislaus is also revered as the patron saint of Transylvania and the border guards.
This year, the series also celebrates round anniversaries, as the St. Ladislaus Days were launched ten years ago, and this year they celebrate the 930th anniversary of the founding of Oradea and the 830th anniversary of the consecration of King Ladislaus.
Gyula Zatykó expressed his joy that Debrecen will be present at the St. Ladislaus Days. As he put it, the two cities have not only a common past but also a common future. This region is like a severed hand that slowly gets back into place, and when it coalesces with the body, blood circulation begins, becoming alive and stronger. It is a border unification that does not require any political influence, this is what the communities of both cities want.
The program organizer said the one-week program is becoming more popular. Ten years ago, when the St. Ladislaus Days were launched, few were known, and the city’s central bridge was named St. Ladislaus Bridge.
Gyula Zatykó invited everyone to the series of events to show the Hungarian culture together.
The community of the Dominican monk Jacek Górski, the parish priest of St. Lazarus Church in Debrecen, is also preparing for a special event, as 21 young people from Poland are coming to the parish to say goodbye to St. László in the parish. Father Jacek said that the purpose of receiving the students was to cultivate Hungarian-Polish cultural and historical relations. Polish students are also welcome to Oradea for the St. Ladislaus Day.
Since St. Ladislaus was born in Poland and his mother was of Polish descent, Polish believers are also great admirers of the king, Father Jacek emphasized, and then expressed his hope that the Polish youth – they know the Hungarian ruler less – would visit closer to Debrecen and Oradea. To the spirituality of St. Ladislaus.
Students will also have the opportunity to experience what a Hungarian city is like outside the border; a similar example exists in the Polish-speaking world, for example in the case of Lemberg. In this way, young people get to know Hungarian and Polish history better.
According to Edit Bódor, the spokesperson for the cross-border community relations of the cabinet office of the mayor’s office in Debrecen, the involvement of St. László Parish and the arrival of Polish youth in Oradea are the foundations of a fruitful relationship.
The speaker quoted Gyula Zatykó from his greeting to St. Ladislaus X. Days: it is still able to show values. “
Edit Bódor added that Debrecen also presents itself, which faithfully reflects the fulfillment of this message, as we can also see groups and art ensembles in Oradea during the week who also present the local community.
He mentioned the ninety-year-old Debrecen Photo Club, which is hosted by the photographer István Tóth. Returning home participates in the program series. Those interested can also see the solo exhibition of the painter József Toró from Oradea and see Fire lily entitled Wass Albert The witch of Funtinel The dance stage version of his highly successful novel entitled Debrecen Folk Ensemble. A volume about what a neighboring city is like The book of Zsolt Heller and Miklós Szénási will also be presented, and the company of the Vojtina Puppet Theater in Debrecen will also be present with its productions.
The 10th St. Ladislaus Days will be made memorable by big concerts, including Ákos’s concert.
Participation in the programs of the St. Ladislaus Days in Oradea, including concerts, is free of charge.
A new initiative was also reported at the press conference. László Kollár, a member of the parish, spoke about their special plan, the St. László walking pilgrimage, which will connect Debrecen and Oradea. I would like to organize a pilgrimage from the Church of St. Ladislaus in Debrecen to the Cathedral of St. Ladislaus in Oradea in the spirit of Dominican spirituality.
