Kodály Music Competition: the best young strings in the world compete in Debrecen
Debrecen – The public opening concert of the competition will take place on June 17 in the Hall of the University of Debrecen.
The competition in the violin, viola and cello categories has been very popular so far: 200 musicians from 45 countries have applied for it – an exceptionally high number in a competition that has a history of several decades. Videos after pre-selection
48 young soloists were invited to the competition, first with their piano, and finally with the best in the finals to show their skills as soloists of the Kodály Philharmonic.
The nine-member international jury is chaired by a true legend, 85-year-old György Pauk, a professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and is surrounded by teachers from the world’s most prestigious institutions: Kristóf Baráti (violin, Budapest), Anne Shih (violin, Mainz) ), Denis Severin (cello, Geneva, Bern), Wilfried Strehle (viola, Berlin), Máté Szűcs (viola, Geneva), István Várdai (cello, Vienna), Quirine Viersen (cello, Amsterdam) and Dániel Somogyi-Tóth, Debrecen chief music director of the city.
The public opening concert of the competition will take place on June 17 in the Hall of the University with the participation of Júlia Pusker, Dániel Somogyi-Tóth, Tibor Bényi and the Kodály Philharmonic.

The rounds of the competition are free to attend: June 18-22 for the first two rounds. The Debrecen Music will be held in the Kölcsey Center on June 24-25.

The gala concert, with the participation of the winners, will also be hosted by the Kölcsey Center, the program of which will only be published the previous evening. The Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Imre Kollár, will take part in the gala.
