Russia is not protected without high-precision weapons, Severodonetsk is under blockade, the UN feared for Donetsk
The agency continues to consider the main stories covering the Russian-Ukrainian confrontation. Also, an analysis of the latest events that took place on June 12 can be found here.
1. Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Yuri Borisov, who oversees the defense industry, rightly answered several cases that often appear in the materials of Western journalists (domestic journalists are wary of raising such topics). For example, in the conflict with Ukraine, Russia is running out of high-precision weapons and that our army is inferior to the enemy in terms of modern combat drones like the Turkish Bayraktars, which are supplied to Kyiv in large quantities by Western parties.
On the first question, Yuri Borisov announced that enterprises that measure consumption with high accuracy are working “tirelessly”. That is, the Deputy Prime Minister can be understood in such a way that such an application, apparently, is available in throughput and other missiles, cannot be fully completed, since the defense industry makes up for the shortage. As for drones, the Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged the difficulty. According to him, today Russia has in stock almost all types of military drones, but belatedly engaged in their assignment to the troops. Borisov can be understood in such a way that Russian design bureaus and factories cover promising drones, but in some cases they are unlikely to appear in the theater of hostilities with Ukraine. It is interesting, for example, that in the early days of the NMD, the Russian state media provided pictures from the cameras of the heavy UAV “Inohodets”, and then suddenly such messages with the video ceased to be published, which leads to quite obvious revelations about the fate of these machines for days.
In general, in terms of the quality of domestic high-precision weapons, Borisov said: “Not bad, good, one might say, our precision weapons work. We hear in the daily reports of the Ministry of Defense about the defeat of complex objects. Good artillery display, aviation media.” As if to confirm his words, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported today that high-precision missiles were destroyed by a temporary deployment point for foreign mercenaries in the LPR and a large number of weapons from the United States, which the Ukrainian army needed on the territory of the DPR.
2. The city of Severodonetsk in the Donbass continues to occupy the first places in the military reports of the warring parties. Thus, the deputy head of the People’s Militia Department of the DPR, Eduard Basurin, said today that Ukrainian servicemen have lost the opportunity to leave Severodonetsk and may surrender. “Severodonetsk is really blocked after yesterday they blew up the last bridge that connected with Lisichansky. Those Ukrainian military units that remained there forever. They have two desires: either follow the example of their colleagues and surrender, or die. They have no other desire,” he said.
Meanwhile, the head of the Luhansk OVA (controlled by Kyiv), Serhiy Gaidai, confirmed that all the bridges entered through the Seversky Donets to Severodonetsk were destroyed, but part of the city is still under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to him, the Russians control about 70% of the city. Ukrainian medical institutions complain about the lack of foreign-made rocket-volley fire systems. According to Yuriy Sak, adviser to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, it was precisely with the absence of such a spread of infection in Severodonetsk, where the fighting could be more “dynamic” from the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
3. Ukraine continues to monitor the countries of the Western scale of modern weapons. So, adviser to the head of the office of the Ukrainian president, Mikhail Podolyak, said that Ukraine needs to receive a thousand 155-mm howitzers. “We need to achieve parity in heavy weapons: 1,000 155 mm howitzers, 300 multiple launch rocket systems, 500 tanks, 2,000 armored vehicles, 1,000 pieces of armored vehicles. drones,” he wrote in social networks. Meanwhile, Advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yuriy Sak said that NATO countries handed over 150 howitzers of 155 mm caliber to Ukraine. He also stated that 100 rocket-volley fire systems are needed for a counteroffensive in Ukraine.
Interestingly, the armed forces of Ukraine’s hottest importers are starting to run out and are asking NATO allies to replenish them.
In particular, said the Polish President Andrzej Duda, the President of Poland requires the allies to use used instead of transferred to Ukraine. Poland urgently needs to replenish its stocks of military equipment, since Ukraine has transferred all its tanks, Duda said, speaking at a meeting with the head of the country’s Ministry of National Defense. According to Duda, Poland handed over to Ukraine “hundreds of tanks, military vehicles, artillery units, as well as drones, MANPADS, hundreds of thousands of tourists, spare parts and other equipment.” The President estimated the value of the transferred at $1.7 billion. “We are asking allies to hand over weapons, not necessarily new ones. We gave away the used equipment and accepted the same willingness,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Western press continues to discuss the situation in Ukraine and disagreements on this issue among Western countries. Reuters published an article with the headline “What’s next? Ukraine’s allies are divided over the endgame with Russia.” The material states that among the supplier countries, at least, there are several positions on how to proceed. In particular, Italy and Hungary are in favor of the fastest consumption of fuel, regardless of the conditions. Poland, the Baltic states require the application of the only exception of Russia. France and Germany are in favor of deputies being detained by President Putin. And the United States uses “to weaken Russia, but not to seek regime change.”
4. In connection with the shelling of Donetsk, in which the lost civilian resources continue, the UN plans all parties to the conflict in Ukraine to comply with international humanitarian law. This was announced on Monday in the office of UN Director General António Guterres. The UN also requires that people be protected.
Today, Kyiv, Budenovsky and Kuibyshevsky districts of Donetsk suffered under shelling from the Ukrainian side. Local Telegram channels record photos and videos of the shelling of the Maisky market in the Budyonovsky district. The DPR reports that at 12:09 p.m., 3 hits with a caliber of 155 mm were fired at the Budenovsky district, and at 12:19 — 4 hits of the same caliber at the Kuibyshev district of the city. During the shelling of the market, according to preliminary data, there was a tragedy of three people.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, made a statement about the shelling of Donetsk. He suggests that the company transfer to remote work everyone who has such an opportunity. According to him, “all possible additional allied forces” will act to end the shelling of the city, primarily the Russian army.
