Russia is swallowed up by the World Tourism Organization
Russia allows the World Tourism Organization, follows from the order signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, reports RIA News.
“Accept the proposal of the Russian Foreign Ministry, jointly with the federal executive authorities concerned, on the withdrawal of the Russian Federation from the World Tourism Organization,” a statement in the document published on the official Internet portal of light and sound information.
Nevertheless, Russia remains in the international tourism arena, Zarina Doguzova, head of the Federal Tourism Agency, said after the publication of the prime minister’s order.
“We are still open to dialogue with all countries and will continue to cooperate with foreign colleagues,” she wrote in Telegram channel.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) had previously suspended Russia’s membership at the end of April. The reason was a military special operation in Ukraine.
At the same time, there was no talk of complete exclusion from the organization: according to Article 34 of the UNWTO Charter, membership can be restored if Russia’s policy is found.
On the same day, the Russian Foreign Ministry approved the decision to withdraw from the UNWTO.
“The Russian side does not adhere to value work at the UNWTO, whose leadership contributes to the politicization of its activities and the opening of support for discrimination against our country. In this regard, the Russian Federation has decided to withdraw from the World Tourism Organization,” the Foreign Ministry said in a priority statement.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is a specialized interdepartmental agency of the UN system, uniting 158 countries, six associated territories, two territories in observer status and more than 500 affiliated organizations. Established in 1975, it is engaged in potentially safe and generally accessible tourism.
