Transformations of stops in Brno: Small, they will not protect, they criticize the shelter on Šumavská
The shelter, which was added during the reconstruction at the Šumavská stop in the direction from the center, is a thorn in the side of some passengers. They don’t mind its size. “It absolutely does not fulfill its function before any weather fluctuations, there is no possibility to sit down, put away a heavy bag,” commented Anita Kupská, for example.

According to her, only about four people or a pram can fit under the shelter and it is full, otherwise he considers the modifications to be successful. Representatives of the Brno transport company, which is in charge of the reconstruction, explain that they must comply with the law. Therefore, if the island is narrow, it is not possible to place a large glass shed with a bench on three sides.
Public transport stops in Brno have been undergoing changes in recent years. “We are installing a unified model of shelters. They have the same picture. The names of the stops are marked. The transport company has a budget for this, “said Petr Kratochvíl, Brno’s councilor for transport.

According to critics, less stop is now accessible. “The costs of the reconstruction exceeded one and a half million crowns,” said Hana Tomaštíková, a spokeswoman for the transport company.
According to Kratochvíl, in this case they also extended the island. “In many cases, the sets are longer due to the higher number of passengers carried,” he noted.
Reconstruction of the Šumavská stop
The last stop in the direction from the center was repaired.
The workers rebuilt it into a barrier-free one with guides for the blind and partially sighted.
Part of the reconstruction was the placement of a shelter to protect passengers from rain and railings.
The costs exceeded 1.5 million crowns.
Further reconstruction will concern both Pionýrská tram stops, both in the direction to the center and from the center.
Both Pionýrská tram stops will also be reconstructed soon. First in the direction of the center, and then also in the opposite direction. “The standard renovation period is two months. We are currently preparing a project, then we will apply for a building permit. We assume that we will start the reconstruction in the autumn, “said Tomaštíková.
As at the Šumavská stop, Pionýrská will also be barrier-free with guiding elements. “We will place a shelter and railings on the island,” Tomaštíková added.

In the second half of the year, the employees of the transport company will start preparing the reconstruction of the Antonínská stops. “We expect their adjustments next year,” said a spokeswoman for the transport company.
Rarity
The shelter at the tram stop has become a target of jokes in the past. On Osová, he protected passengers from the rain under the bridge. Representatives of the transport company had it removed. “There was probably a misunderstanding during its placement, which we immediately pointed out. We had the company solve the shelter and we are solving its relocation to a place where it would make sense, “said Miloš Havránek, General Manager of the Transport Company, last October.
There are many more unfortunate or amazing stops in Brno. Shelters in Grohov are facing the opposite side of the track. Another rarity is located at the Loosova bus stop. The stop means octopus.
