The Russian authorities will withdraw from Japan the right to fish from the Kuril Islands because of the refusal for the corresponding quota, said Yuri Trutnev, presidential envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District. This is reported TASS.
“We have already, on fundamental matters, limited (fish export. – Approx. ed.), where they were limited precisely by their efforts – they refused for release for quotas for fishing around the Kuril Islands. Accordingly, this right will be withdrawn from them,” Trutnev said.
According to him, Japan showed itself in such actions.
On June 7, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that Russia was suspending an initiative with Japan on a global priority in marine natural resources, as Tokyo was freezing payments supposed to be agreed as early as 1998.
The Japanese Foreign Ministry, in turn, said that the Soviets with Moscow would continue after their decisions by Russia to suspend the interstate agreement. The representative of the department pointed out that the fishermen should be given the opportunity to continue working with the Russian negotiator.
