To whom Russia sells oil, it became known June 1, 2022 – Business – Saint-Petersburg News
Oil traders continue to supply Russian fuel to the United States, bypassing sanctions bans, informs The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, June 1st. In particular, crude oil from Russia is found in gasoline, diesel fuel and other mixed refined products.
In early March, US President Joe Biden announced a ban on all energy sources from Russia, including crude oil, certain petroleum products, liquefied natural gas and coal. However, according to the WSJ, oil traders are finding ways around the ban. So, in May, fuel, partly produced from Russian oil, arrived in New York and Jersey. It was delivered to the US via the Suez Canal and the Atlantic from Indian refineries.
After the start of a special operation in Ukraine, India, taking advantage of a significant discount in oil growth in relation to the benchmark Brent brand, sharply increased the volume of energy exports from Russia. According to Reuters, in March-April, India bought twice as much oil from Russia as in all of 2021. In Asian countries, European volumes of Russian fuel exports were introduced, mainly due to contracts from Moscow and New Delhi.
According to the WSJ, oil produced in Russia is pumped between ships in the Mediterranean and Black Seas, as well as further distribution of oil in China, India and European countries.
In late April, The Wall Street Journal reported that more than 11 million barrels of Russian fuel had gone to “unknown destinations.” It was then concluded that the use of the “destination unknown” marker may be due to the fact that oil is delivered at sea to larger tankers, where other volumes of oil products are found.
