Gazprom will stop gas deliveries to the Danish energy company Ørsted on 1 June – E24
The Russians’ exports to Denmark will be stopped from tomorrow.
It is the Danish company itself that reports this in a message.
The reason is that the Danes will not pay in rubles, as the Russians have demanded.
– We in Ørsted stand by our refusal to pay in rubles, and we have prepared so we expect that we can continue to supply gas to our customers, says CEO Mads Nipper in the report.
As early as Monday, it was announced that the throttling of Russian gas to Denmark could become a reality. Well, that is confirmed, with a concretized and quick date.
The Russian reason is that Ørsted – formerly DONG Energy – refuses to accept the demand to pay for the gas in rubles. In the past, the Russian energy giant Gazprom has stopped supplying gas to the Netherlands, Finland, Poland and Bulgaria on the same grounds.
– The situation reports that we in the EU must become independent of Russian gas by accelerating the expansion of for energy, says Nipper.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has said that she supports Ørsted’s decision. The company believes it will be possible to replace the Russian gas with gas purchases from other suppliers.
Denmark covers 18 percent of the annual energy consumption with natural gas, according to the news agency AFP. In 2019, three quarters of the gas was produced in Denmark. A significant part of what was imported came from Russia.
