Debrecen – Two thirds of the Csokonai Theater was renovated. Half of the stage technology has been completed, the interior design work has been completed, and restoration will begin soon. The stage was already tested as part of a surprise production during Monday’s tour. The company is scheduled to play here next spring.
They are working on the interior design work at the Csokonai Theater. The corridors have been given new flooring, some have been sanded down, and in most places plasterboard has been replaced. According to the director of the theater, the sight is inviting and they would love to see the spaces. Péter Gemza believes that it is gratifying to be able to discuss the details.

– When you have to think about what the cabinets should look like, which picture to put where and where the picture rails will be, it is an advanced condition. Of course, there are other types of things, but everything from the design of the instrument system to the storage things is already this way, Péter Gemza emphasized.
Renovation of the theater is underway at two-thirds, and stage technology is at 50 percent completion. they are also starting restoration work on the more than 160-year-old building.
On Monday afternoon, László Papp also walked through the corridors and larger spaces. According to the mayor, the Csokonai Theater and the Csokonai Forum together will open up unprecedented opportunities in the cultural life of Debrecen.
“It opens up huge opportunities, different styles, different theaters, theater can appear in the two buildings, we can say that the Csokonai Forum is a modern building, it can be a modern, contemporary theater, and the old building of the Csokonai Theater is traditional Hungarian theater,” the mayor said.
The Csokonai Theater was produced with a surprise production during the tour, it was the first on the new stage. The first performance is scheduled for next spring.
