The Lufthansa Debrecen-Munich flight has resumed
Gábor Antal, the Hungarian representative of the German Lufthansa Group, recalled that since 2016, Lufthansa has operated between Munich and Debrecen three times a week, and after the two-year forced break from the coronavirus epidemic, they will resume with four flights a week. The planes will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Interestingly, while in 2019, the last full year before the epidemic, 60 percent of customers using the flight were corporate travelers and 40 percent were individual travelers, according to current bookings, the reverse is true. Their general experience is that the return of companies is more delayed, the expert said.
Gábor Antal said that the Lufthansa Group reached 57 percent of its pre-coronavirus capacity in the first quarter of this year, compared to 171 percent in the first quarter of 2021.
Lufthansa plans for the long term in Debrecen – said Gábor Antal to MTI’s interest, indicating that the leaders of the BMW Group arrived in Debrecen next week to lay the foundation stone for the BMW car factory in Debrecen.
Ádám Kovács, the head of the town hall’s cabinet, reminded that since 2016, when Lufthansa launched its Debrecen-Munich flight, many German companies have moved to the city, employing more than a thousand people.
The airport, which is now 5 million1 percent owned by the Hungarian state, is being continuously developed, and according to their plans, they will be able to reach one passenger a year by 2025, Ádám Kovács told MTI.
János Vajda, the head of Debrecen International Airport Kft., Which operates the air base, said that the number of flights is constantly growing this year. Wizz Air already operates flights from nine cities to Debrecen.
In addition to flights to Eindhoven, Paris, London, Brussels and Tel Aviv, Wizz Air flights from Debrecen fly to Larnaca, Mallorca, Corfu and Burgas in the summer. Charter flights will run from June to the resorts of Antalya and Zakynthos, first so popular that they will run four flights a week instead of the planned three, the director listed.
