Salzburg apprentices are most likely to complete their high school diploma
training
When it comes to apprenticeships with a high school diploma, Salzburg continues to be the model federal state. Every fifth apprentice chooses this path, even if it is challenging with vocational training and night school. This is reported by the BFI vocational training institute. Tourism companies in particular should offer this route.
Around 1,500 Salzburg apprentices opted for the additional Matura last year and thus 20 percent of all apprentices in Salzburg. In most other federal states it is less than ten percent. “They only get apprentices if they offer apprenticeships with a high school diploma, because that also opens up perspectives for the apprentices. In the meantime, an apprenticeship with a high school diploma represents equal opportunities to get ahead,” says Franz Fuchs-Weikl, Managing Director of the Vocational Training Institute (BFI).
Amical environment appeals to young people
According to the Vocational Training Institute (BFI), the fact that Salzburg can maintain its top position as in previous years is due to the organization. In this country, the Chamber of Labor and the Chamber of Commerce are jointly responsible. Thus, it falls under adult education. The participants are apprentices and they appreciate the fact that they are in an amical environment where other adults are also present and they can travel independently. They like being treated as adults,” says Fuchs-Weikl.
Demand: Tourism should jump on the train
For training companies, especially in tourism, this dual offer is practically a must, demands the managing director of the BFI, Fuchs-Weikl. The vocational baccalaureate comprises a total of four areas with German, mathematics, English and a job-related subject area.
