Harley meeting: Three people rescued from Saalach
timeline
In Hinterglemm (Pinzgau), three people had to be rescued from the Saalach in the early hours of Friday morning. A woman fell into a creek on her way home from a Harley meeting, and two men jumped in to help her.
But the two men found themselves in danger. Because the Saalach is currently carrying a lot of water, the creek also has concrete walls in this area – it was not possible for the three people to save themselves from the creek bed, according to the fire brigade. Around 3.30 a.m., a large number of emergency services were alerted.
Half an hour in cold water: two hypothermia
The woman was abducted from the Saalach, but was able to hold on to a stone. The two men clung to bushes, says the Saalbach fire brigade commander Michael Eberharter. Two people had been in the cold water for a good half hour. They were slightly injured and taken to the Zell am See hospital with hypothermia.
Because of contradicting witness statements, a large search operation was also carried out – because at times there was talk of five missing people, says Eberharter: “In the end there were definitely only three people in the Saalach.” The fire brigades occupied the Saalach bridges downstream in Viehhofen and Maishofen to be able to provide assistance. Emergency doctor, rescue, police and water rescue were also in action.
