Access to the site, the opening ceremony and a number of performances and installations is free by registering. For some performances you pay a modest contribution that goes directly to the makers. Look at the performance pages for more information about the performance and ticket price.
multiple functions
De Sloot is a workshop for theater makers and is run by artists. In an old factory hall you will find a flat floor theater hall and a smaller hall, three large rehearsal rooms and a multitude of studios in which makers, theater groups and students can develop and present their work.
It is a place for performances, but where there is also room for experimentation and reaction through lectures, public rehearsals, try-outs, exhibitions, film evenings and everything you can think of.
missing link
De Sloot wants to be the missing link between two extremes in Amsterdam culture. On the one hand, there must be the public theaters where performances that need to be prepared and a variety. Makers have little room for taking artistic risks here. The breeding grounds that currently exist in the city are designed for autonomous artists and creatives. This breeding ground focuses on the performing arts. De Sloot is one for theater makers where the experiment can be shared with an audience, and where proven success can be realized for a period of time. a trained breed felt a gap in the infrastructure of the Amsterdam performing arts. De Sloot has a strong focus on young talent and also offers less experienced makers room to develop. Because Amsterdam is an important maker city for the whole of the Netherlands, the incubator will give a strong impulse to the development of young makers.
Getting together
The café/restaurant De Sering is located next to the theater breeding ground, adjacent to the courtyard, with a large terrace. It is a place where young, art-making and art-loving Amsterdammers from all corners of the city feel welcome and where everyone likes to come together.
