Meeting with Irakli Garibavil, Prime Minister of Sacartwell, at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday Gitan Nausda, President of Lithuania, expressed support for Tbilisi’s European integration.
In early March, Sakartwell formally requested to join the European Union (EU) shortly after Ukraine, which was fighting Russia’s invasion, did so.
During the meeting with the Prime Minister of the country, G. Nausda congratulated Sakartvel on filling in the second questionnaire of the European Commission (EC) for a short time and still pushing for closer integration with the EU.
Lithuania supports Sakartwell’s path of European and Euro-Atlantic integration and is following with great concern Russia’s attempts to prevent Sakartwell and other sovereign states from making independent decisions on foreign policy, the head of state said in a press release.
The ECJ should speak on granting candidate status to Sakartvel, Ukraine and Moldova.
Even if you check the status, you will have to wait for a long and complicated login process. They will need to implement far-reaching reforms to meet the Community’s political and economic standards.
In August 2008, Russia staged a ground attack on Sakartvel after fighting pro-Russian separatists in the South Ossetian region.
After the war, Sakartvel remained divided, and Russia confiscated Piet Ossetia, and still the separatist region of Abkhazia, as independent states and now holds its troops there.
Both Sakartvel and Ukraine are signatories to the EU Association Agreement.
Mr Nausda also met with Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organization for European Co-operation and Development (OECD), in Davos.
The president thanked him for the organisation’s decision to remove Russia and Belarus from all OECD institutions, the report said.
Today, we are talking not only about Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and the retaliation of the civilized world, but also about planning Ukraine’s reconstruction and helping to break the path of development, says G. Nausda.
The fact that the OECD supports the establishment of the Lithuanian-Polish Initiative Office for Ukraine is very important for Ukraine’s future. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development will play an important role in helping Ukraine and its economy to recover.
According to the President, G. Nausda invited the Secretary General of the OECD to assess the possibility of relocating the Representation of Ukraine to Kiev in Kiev in the near future.
The President emphasized that this would be important moral support for a state fighting Russian aggression.
