Hanover duo paddles to the World Cup: Jakob Thordsen celebrates World Cup victory
Jakob Thordsen secures his ticket to the Canoe World Championships with a World Cup victory in singles. “As if the devil were after him, such a great race, outstanding”, praised national coach Jan Francik. For Paulina Paszek there is silver in the two.
Hanover.During the first interview with the winner, Jakob Thordsen from Hannoversches KC held on to the bridge with his last strength. He could hardly speak, his performance spoke for itself anyway. He had driven a formidable race in that World Cup opener in the Czech race, which was so important at the same time. It was about the World Cup tickets. As in the internal qualification, Thordsen won the 500 meters and was half a boat length ahead in the final. “As if the devil were after him, such a great race, outstanding”, praised national coach Jan Francik. “It was really hard, actually the 1000 meters is my route,” said Thordsen.
Thordsen wasn’t sure about the World Cup ticket for the final, he had to be the best German at the same time for the World Cup ticket. “It was a very fast race with a strong tailwind. It was very tough, I’m very happy to have made it,” said Thordsen. Francik is convinced that he caused a stir with this triumph: “The whole canoeing world watched this finale at the start of the season. Anyone who didn’t know Jakob has now delayed him on their screens.”
