This summer, Prague will offer culture lovers a number of music events, outdoor theaters, various exhibitions and the traditional festival of the new circus Letní Letná. The cultural program in the metropolis will also include the accompanying program of the LGBT + Prague Pride people festival in August. The organizers of the events are happy to do without anti-pandemic measures during this year’s holidays.
The legendary Nick Cave will visit Prague in the summer
The biggest music events are produced before the holidays. The three-day Metronome Prague festival at the Prague Exhibition Grounds will start on June 23, and the first day the Australian musician and singer Nick Cave will play with his band The Bad Seeds. A series of open-air summer concerts in the Branické ledárny complex in Prague is being held this year under the name Ledárny Open Air. The music project follows last year’s Lucerna Music Bar Open Air concept, which was visited by thousands of visitors. The band will open on June 2 with the band Divokej Bill.
The venue of several musical events will be the Summer Stage of the Kampa Museum on the banks of the Vltava. First, on August 4, the band Zrní will play in the open air. The next day, August 5, the summer stage will feature a concert by Václav Neckář and Bacil, who, accompanied by a string quartet, will celebrate the band’s 51st anniversary. And symbolically, on August 21, opera singer Adam Plachetka and his Concert for Freedom will perform here.
Theaters are not idle and are preparing open-air events for the summer
Bravo Theater! in cooperation with the National Gallery in Prague, it will open the summer stage of the new circus, pantomime and acrobatics in the Gothic gardens of the Monastery of St. Anežky České. The season will begin with the premiere of the acrobatic musical Heaven.
The Kalich Theater is once again planning an open-air show, concerts or talk show in Žižkov. The fourth year of Prima Hvězdného let’s under the Žižkov Tower should present almost 60 performances and spectators can look forward to guests, for example Iva Janžurová, Jiří Bartoška, Dagmar Pecková, Jiří Lábus, Oldřich Kaiser, Petr Rychlý, Ondřej Vetchý, Jiří Langmajer, Tereza Cube and more.
Summer cinemas and traditional Shakespeare’s summer festivities will be present on the cultural scene this year as well
The Shakespeare Summer Festival will feature four novelties this year. The first of them, Macbeth’s production, will open on June 28 in the Royal Garden of Prague Castle. Viewers will also see other popular games from past years, such as The Merry Wives of Windsor, Lots of Noise for Nothing or The Storm.
The operators of Prague summer cinemas are also preparing for the season. These can be found in the metropolis in, for example, the Karlín Barracks, Strahov, Střelecký Island, Žluté lázně, Riegrovy sady or Stromovka.
At the beginning of the summer, the villa of the sculptor František Bílek, managed by the Gallery of the Capital City of Prague, will also open to visitors at the beginning of the summer. Over the summer, she prepared, among other things, an exhibition on the role of photography in the post-media period. The Kampa Museum will offer a show of works by sculptor Barbora Blahutová in the summer months, and the DOX Gallery of Contemporary Art will focus on art classified as art brut in the (Ne) Moc exhibition.
Folklore, gastronomy and rainbow parade. The selection in Prague will be really wide
The Prague Old Town awaits a procession of members of folklore ensembles, which will gather in Prague for the Prague Folklore Days held from 21 to 24 July. Ensembles from different parts of the world will perform at the festival. After a two-year break, a parade of LGBT + people will pass through Prague again this August as part of the Prague Pride festival. The festival will be created from August 8 to 14 and will offer cultural, sports or educational events and discussions. During the holidays, Praguers and tourists in the metropolis can also visit gastronomic festivals. Those interested will be able to buy delicacies of French cuisine in the Kampa market in mid-July. The Čajomír Tea Festival will be held for the fourteenth time this year, this time at the Prague Exhibition Grounds. Wine lovers will also enjoy themselves. For example, the Prague Wine Festival will offer wine tasting of winemakers on 12 August in the premises of the New Town Hall.
