Sedlec-Prčice (Příbram Region) – Today, after a two-year covid break, 17,508 tourists went on the Prague-Prčice route. The first of them set off on the track before 05:00. After 13:30, the first participant of the longest seventy-kilometer route, which was crossed by over 800 people, arrived at the finish line. Everyone should reach the finish line by today’s 20:00, around 15:00 there were about 4000. The organizers had to limit the number of participants due to the exclusion of railway traffic between Olbramovice and Chotoviny. Only those who registered electronically in advance on the route informed Dana Horáková on behalf of the organizers.
This year, those interested could not register until the start, as they were used to, they only showed QR codes. “We needed to cap, so we closed the registration two days before the march. Due to the reconstruction of the railway line, there are longer transport routes, we also strengthened transport to the south,” Horáková said. The organizers appreciated that they lost their work with entry fee this year.
Pedestrian routes measure from 23 to 70 kilometers, the longest starts in Prague. Part 21 is reserved for cyclists. “Cyclists have had separate routes since 2006, we wanted to avoid danger because they were interfering with the pedestrian route,” Horáková added.
This year, forty-five-year-old Jana from Teplice in North Bohemia also set out on a route, and her friend walked a forty-two-kilometer route from Benešov. They slept in Prague for today, today they have an overnight stay in Hulín near Jesenice. “We are going for the fourth time and I am happy, it is very nice, I am surprised that Central Bohemia is so picturesque,” she told ČTK.
The most popular is the children’s route from Votic, 23 kilometers long. “It is also used by seniors who don’t like it that much. The wheelchair route started in Miličín, 98 wheelchair users set off.
According to Horáková, about 300 people are involved in the organization of the race. Each participant will receive a shoe as a souvenir, every year in a different color, this year it is yellow. The entry fee is 40 crowns, in previous years the organizers also offered discounts for children and seniors, this year it is the same for everyone.
The Prague-Prčice march has been taking place since 1966, when five hundred tourists managed to cover a distance of 100,000 Czech elbows, which corresponds to about 60 kilometers. The last time tourists marched was in 2019, there were over 26,000 of them. A year later, the event was postponed due to the pandemic, but in the end it did not take place last year either. It was not possible to meet the conditions regarding the number of participants or to obtain a positive opinion of the Chief Hygienist for the town of Sedlec-Prčice.
